Building The Perfect Laundry Room Part 2

In our last post, we began looking at or maybe dreaming of the perfect laundry room. The truth is most of us have a tiny little area of our home where the washer and dryer are located. It is not always a convenient area and can be drab and certainly dark. For whatever reason, it seems this is one of the most used places in the home but got the absolute least amount of attention in the planning. If you have an opportunity to plan a new home build or a home remodel maybe you can design your perfect laundry area. If so we have more great ideas and tips for you. If you do not have this opportunity, maybe some of our tips can help you refresh the area. Then, laundry in Raleigh NC won’t be so drab and boring!

One item that is often overlooked in a laundry room design is a sink. This is a great addition in this area so that you can remove stains more easily. It will be easier to soak laundry items that need a little more work to get the stains out. It is also a perfect way to gain more storage underneath with cabinetry. The countertop surrounding it will also give you more folding room as well.

As we mentioned in the previous post there are a lot of creative ways to store your ironing board and iron. There is cabinetry that will conceal it in the wall. There are also racks for the back of the door as well. Having this already established in the laundry room means you have a convenient place to keep clothes ironed and ready to go.

Having the proper baskets and laundry bins will also ensure your laundry room is organized well. Take some time to really think out your laundry routine. Even a small space can function well if it is properly organized. Your family, as well as your routine, is unique. Shop around for the right things to make your laundry routine as efficient as possible.

If you are a crafter the laundry room can do double duty. If you design it large enough it can hold and organize all of your crafting items. Sewing machines, material, and even gift wrap can all be stored properly. If you consider thoroughly what you need for the family you can certainly design a room that works well for all your needs.

Considering the amount of time you spend doing your family’s laundry in Raleigh NC daily, weekly, and monthly, make this room as attractive as possible. Adding a great curtain to dress up the room or a cool rug can make it aesthetically welcoming. Find some color that brings this room to life and makes you want to do laundry there. Some pops of color through artwork can help you do this.

Just because the laundry is a tedious, time consuming chore does not mean the laundry room does not need to be uninviting. We hope you can find ways from our tips to design one that is inviting and one you are proud of.

Building the Perfect Laundry Room Part One

What does your laundry area look like in your home? Unfortunately, in most homes, you will find the laundry room relegated to what looks like the darkest hole in the home. In many home builds, it almost seems the contractor or home designer gave little to no thought about the amount of time and energy a family spends on doing their laundry each week. Laundry is one of those areas where when building a new home build, much attention needs to be given to where it will be located. Over the next couple of blog posts, we will look at building and/or re-designing a functional laundry room or area in a home.

In this post, let’s take a look at a list of things that would make your laundry room functional and easy to use.

Perfect Laundry Room Characteristics | Coin Laundry Raleigh NC

  • The first thing to look at is size. Many laundry rooms are built to be long and somewhat narrow. Make your laundry room as wide as you can get by with. You will want to not only get into the room with your baskets of clothing but room to turn around and to not be encumbered by things that are just sitting around.
  • Another great idea is to have good rod space. This will give you somewhere to hang clothing as it comes out of the dryer and then ready to go into the closet. It also gives you a place to hang clothing that needs to air dry. This will help with the wear and tear on your laundry.
  • Because laundry rooms are often put in faraway places, they do not have a great deal of light. Add as large a window or several windows as you can to bring in natural light. This will give you enough light to help you actually do the laundry. You will be able to see the stains and clothing items that need your attention much better.
  • If possible, something that is often requested for many families is a closet that is placed inside of the laundry room. This is a great area in which to store cleaning implements. Things such as your ironing board, broom, vacuum cleaner, or mop. This is really important when it comes to having good storage inside the laundry room as well as the other areas of the home. This keeps everything organized into one place.
  • When it comes to an ironing board if you have the chance to help with the design of a laundry room concealed ironing board is a really good idea. The ironing board and iron are concealed into a cabinet within the walls of the room. When the door is shut, the laundry room is much neater, without the iron and ironing board in the way.
  • Give a great deal of thought to the cabinetry or wall-mounted shelves that you will want to have in your laundry room. This can hold all of your laundry detergent, stain remover‘s, fabric softener’s, and other items needed to do your laundry efficiently. If you prefer open shelving, then decide how many you will need and what other items such as baskets you will want to organize your laundry supplies.

Fun Laundry Facts

Last post we noted that sometimes we only think we have a lot of laundry to do. In fact, we are finding that is not the case. Along with discovering those who have way more laundry in Raleigh NC than we do we began discovering some really interesting facts about laundry. We will continue that discussion in this blog post as well.

In more modern-day time the average family here in the United States is estimated to do a whopping 8 to 10 loads of laundry per week. Doing just one load of laundry in Raleigh NC all the way through from wash to dry averages one hour and 27 minutes per load. Into days home most use a dryer that is either electric or gas powered. The clothesline is only used about 21.2% of households to dry their clothing.

  • A really fun fact to use for comparison is that to do the same amount of laundry that is done at Walt Disney world we would have to step up our game. It is estimated that if we did one load of laundry per day for the next 44 years we would do as much laundry as they do at Disney in one day. It is estimated that an average of 285,000 pounds of laundry is washed each day. The dry cleaning alone is estimated to be between 30,030 2000 pieces of clothing a day.
  • A little-known laundry fact is that for 50 years laundry was being mailed back-and-forth across the country. This is because many college students were mailing their dirty clothes home to their mothers who would wash and press their clothing and then mail it back to them. The United States postal service provided this service with reusable boxes. When washing machines came along and were more readily available in the 1960s, laundry mail soon came to an end. However, this certainly has never stopped college students from bringing their laundry home for their mothers to wash today.
  •  Speaking of washing machines did you know that the very first washing machine came about in 1782 in Great Britain. H. Sidger invented a rod cage that could be cranked. He is largely credited with inventing the first laundry machine. The first mass-marketed washing machine that came to the United States was known by the name of THOR. This washing machine was produced in 1908 by the Hurley machine company. This first machine was made of chains and Wood.
  •  A really interesting fun fact about laundry concerns underwear. Did you know that astronauts send their dirty underwear out of the space ship into the earth’s atmosphere where it is incinerated? Also, Walt Disney World employees were at one time issued their underwear by the company. This underwear was then shared by the laundry system. After a big outbreak of scabies and lice it was decided that workers would be issued their own undergarments and would take them home and launder them themselves.

Things To Consider When Buying A New Washer

Let’s face it we all love to shop, Right? Much of our free time is spent shopping for clothes, groceries, and other fun stuff. Once in a while, we have to spend some time appliance shopping. This is not nearly as fun since there are so many things to be considered before making such a major purchase. One of those appliances is a washer. Unfortunately, a washer is one of those time saving appliances we all need in our day to day lives. In today’s market washer have become much advanced. There are so many styles, makes, and models available today. This post will hopefully help you figure out what type of washer will be the right choice for your family. If you need it, visit our laundromat in Raleigh NC!

Let’s first look at the various styles of washers. You will soon find that things have changed with today’s washers. There is the traditional top loader style washer that has been available for many years here in the US. This type of washer is generally your least expensive option. It is also the much less energy efficient style.

The newer front loading washers come with all the luxury’s you could want or need in a washer. The biggest drawback is that you will want a pedestal to place it on particularly if you are shorter in stature. These will cause back strain from bending over so much to load the wet laundry into the dryer. These machines, however, are the most energy efficient of all. They are more expensive than their counterpart.

No matter which type you pick there are some features you will not want to compromise on. The water level is one of these. The option for small, medium, and large size loads is a great feature to have. Water temperatures settings are also great as a way to take care of your clothing. Settings for delicates, permanent press, and casual wear are good. Some of today’ s washers also offer steam, delay wash, pre-soak cycles and extra rinse cycles.

Another consideration to look at is the amount of space you have for a laundry room or laundry area. If you are looking for the ability to do as much laundry per load as possible keep in mind that bigger load capacities mean a larger machine as well. Sometimes as much as two to three inches in width. This becomes really important depending on the space you have to work with. Measure your space allowing for at least six inches between the washer and the water hookups behind it. You will also need space for an inch between your washer and dryer. Make certain that you can get the new washer through any door openings in your home. If you have a smaller space a stackable unit is one you can consider. Again we recommend measuring to make certain you have the proper amount of room. If the washer will be placed near a living area such as bedrooms, kitchens, or living rooms noise will become an issue. Check out the vibrations scores on the unit you are considering.

The summer months bring more laundry. Swimming, sports, and of course vacations mean more clothes. If you find yourself in need of laundry help stop by our laundromat in Raleigh NC today! We can help you with all your laundry needs. Our wash-dry-fold services are great!

Making Your Washer and Dryer Last Longer

Our washers and dryers are something that we tend to take for granted. If you are single or if you have a family the laundry routine is one, we just grow accustomed to. Have you ever given any thought to how to make your washer and your dryer last as long as possible? This post will offer tips on how to keep your washer and your dryer working top notch and how to get more life out of them. If you need a Raleigh laundromat stop by Laundry Express!

First, let’s look at washers. Over the last 10 to 15 years there have been some really awesome advances in washers. When you go to look for a new washer you will see there are many options available in today’s markets. There are top loaders, front loaders, newer more modern colors, and all kinds of options available for the running of the machine. The following are some really good ways to keep your washer running as long as possible.

Laundry Tips | Raleigh Laundromat

  • Take the time to clean your washer after each load. Make certain to remove any dirt or accumulated lint from the washer screens. You will find these usually where the hoses attach to your water supply. Keeping these clean of any dirt or grease it will ensure you have the right water flow into your washing machine.
  • Make certain that your washer is level on the surface in which it sits. If your washer is not level it can cause vibration and shaking of your machine. Your clothing will not wash properly. It will also mean more wear and tear on your washer.
  • Never fill your washer too full. There will be recommendations from the manufacturer of the washer on how much it should hold for a load of laundry. If you place too many items of clothes per load it will cause the machine to become overstuffed. This means your laundry will not get as clean as it should. It can also mean that your washer will not have the same life expectancy.
  • Always make sure that you use the right detergent and the right amount of detergent in your loads of clothes. Today’s washers sometimes need specific types of detergent such as high efficiency detergent to perform well. If you use too much detergent this will cause your machine to work extra hard and it can also mean more rinse cycles making the wash time longer. This can cost you money and energy but also can cause the washer to work harder costing you money, energy, and more wear on your washer.

For your dryer, use these tips to keep it in good shape.

  • Always make certain to not overload the dryer. Clothes will take way longer to dry. This will cause wear and tear of your dryer.
  • Always clean the lint screen before each new load is added. A good habit is to do it after you remove the newly dried load. This way it is ready for the next. Not cleaning the lint screen can be dangerous as a fire can result.
  • Take the time to clean your dryer inside and out to make certain it runs properly.
