Laundry Tips, continued

Welcome back! We have more great tips for your laundry in Raleigh NC that you will want to try out. These might seem like a well kept secret after you read them, but don’t worry. You can use them every time you wash and dry now!

One tip that we cannot stress enough is to treat stains before they have a chance to say it. Always take the time to blot any liquids from the outside in so that they will not spread. Keep a formula made to treat stains handy and make sure that all of your family members know how to use it. Once you have treated the stains and they have gone through a wash cycle check them thoroughly. Never place an item into the dryer that still has a stain. Heat will set the stain and it will become permanent. This tip for laundry in Raleigh NC will be a life saver when it comes to stain removal!

We all want our clothes to smell really good once they are clean. If you do not like using dryer sheets however, you can try making your own. Essential Oils are a good way to make your own dryer sheets. You can use old terrycloth washcloths or diapers. Simply add your favorite essential oil to the cloth and throw it in the dryer. This will make all of your clothes smell awesome. The great news is there are hundreds of smells to choose from.

Keeping your laundry area organized and fully stocked with all you need will also help your laundry chores to go easier and certainly faster. Spend a few hours cleaning the area and figuring out what will help this dreaded chore flow better for the entire family.

Laundry Tips

In a previous blog post last fall, we began looking at tips you can use to make your laundry chore easier and hopefully not a dreaded thing to be done. We have searched for and located the best-kept laundry tips to help keep your laundry caught up with as little effort as possible. Here, you’ll find even more tips!

Tips for Laundry | Coin Laundry Raleigh NC

One of our best tips is to take the time to properly get your clothes ready for putting in the washer. This means emptying out all of the pockets checking for paper, loose change, or any items that might be hiding there. You will also need to zip all the zippers, remove any jewelry or pins if there is any velcro you will want to secure this. One thing you will not want to do is to button your buttons. This is because the wash cycle can stress the buttons and cause the button holes to become larger than you need. Take the time to roll socks, tie any strings or ribbons that might become tangled in the wash. Your delicate items will need to be placed into a mesh zippered bag. Sweaters and your cotton T-shirts can be turned inside out. This can help to keep pilling from happening to your more delicate items.

In generations past, a product called bluing was used in the wash to provide a subtle blue tint to whites. This blue white tint can make white clothing appear whiter, brighter, and cleaner. If you find that chlorine bleach is destroying your fabrics you may certainly give bluing a try.

Stay tuned for more tips that can help you get your laundry done quickly and efficiently!

Top Loading Washers without an Agitator 101

Over the last several blog posts we have been looking at the basics of washers in today’s market place. We have seen the basics of front loaders, top loaders with an agitator, and now we will look at top loaders without an agitator. These machines are still relatively new in the market. They are gaining in popularity as they seem to offer the best of both worlds when it comes to washers. Need the best coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC and services from our laundromat? Stop by today!

First, because they lack an agitator, these new washers are considered high efficiency (HE) washers. This means they offer better water efficiency and energy efficiency than those with an agitator. They also spin faster which means more water is extracted and drying time is far less than with an agitator style washer. There are many more benefits to a newer high efficiency top loading washer.

  • Although the average wash cycle is longer, 60-80 minutes, the newer washers use less water to clean an average size laundry load and less energy. This can mean huge savings to the average family over the life of the washer.
  • Most top loader washers without an agitator are also larger. This means a larger load of laundry can be done. Most are now taller as well. Most claim to hold 4.5 cubic feet which means things like a king sized comforter can be washed in them. A word of caution when it comes to taller. This means a shorter person or children might find it really hard to get the clothing out at the end of the cycle. Many consumers find they must resort to various other ways to reach the clothing at the bottom of this taller washer. You may want to test this out before purchasing.
  • Although these washers have no agitator they are still harder on fabrics. The cycles are longer and this alone can cause fabrics to wear more quickly.
  • You will need to use care in loading these washers. They can become unbalanced and cause error messages when the load is not even. To prevent this problem use care when putting in a load. Distribute the weight as evenly as possible and do not overload your washer.
  • Tangling of your clothing can also be an issue. If you are washing linens and bedding this can be an even bigger issue. Just remember to place these items into your washer carefully.
  • When it comes to detergents and fabric softeners you will want to make certain to use HE products only. These have been specifically determined to work best in all high efficiency washers.

As you can see there are many options available in today’s market when it comes to washers. Always do your homework and make sure you ask plenty of questions. Only you will know which one is right for your family. Doing the laundry is a constant chore that requires lots of time. Picking a washer that saves you money and time is critical.

Top Loading Washers 101

In our last blog post, we begin looking at front load washers versus top loading washers. We focused first on front loading washers. This blog post will look at top loading washers and how they have changed. If you look back at the history of washing machines you will see that the most available style of washer has been the top loading, agitator style of washer. These washers have been popular on the market for decades. When it comes to washers it may surprise you to know that more than 9.9 million washers were shipped to big box stores each year. These statistics break down to 39% top loading washers with an agitator and 36% top loading machines without an agitator. The remaining 25% of washers were front-loading machines. Our Raleigh laundromat talks all about top loaders here!
You may be wondering why an agitator washer remains so popular. This remains true simply because they have shorter wash cycles than most other types of washing machines. Another reason for their popularity is they are the least expensive option of all washing machines. In fact, statistic shows that the cost of a top agitator washing machine is less than $500. This makes them one of the more popular washing machines available in today’s market.
If you are in the market for a new washing machine the following are some things that you might want to consider when it comes to a top loading agitator washer:
When it comes to cleaning, a top loader agitator washer cleans your clothing good enough but falls short of earning an excellent score when it comes to how well it is cleaning. Because they use a shorter period of time to clean during the cycle if your clothing is soiled heavily this machine might not get your clothes as clean as you would like. You would need to use a different cycle such as a heavy duty cycle or heavy soil cycle. You will also want to be certain to use really good laundry detergent and pre-treat all tough stains.
What this also means is that you will need to use these more heavy duty cycles and because there is an agitator these washers may be less gentle on your fabrics. When an agitator is causing your fabrics to rub up against each other continuously the fabric will wear out much sooner. Having to use this type of cycle combined with a more powerful detergent will also cause more wear and tear on your clothing.
Another factor to consider is that all washing machines use less water than their predecessors. However, a top loading agitator style washer still uses more than others on the market. This adds up to more than 40 gallons per wash compared to the 16 to 26 gallons required for a top rated. As a result, most of these types of washer do not carry an energy star rating.
Please come back for our next post as we look at top loading washers without agitators.  If you are being run ragged, just attempting to keep up with all your extra laundry. give our Raleigh laundromat a try! Front Loading Washers 101

If you are in the market for a new washer our next couple of posts are for you. In these posts, we will look at front load washers and top load washers. We will explore the differences between the two and hopefully help you decide which would be right for you and your family’s laundry. This post will address front loading washers.

Front load washers are relatively new to the united states but have been standard overseas in Europe and in Asia. They gained popularity in the United States over the last 10 years. The price of a front load washer, however, has been much higher and in recent years this has caused sales to decline. There are some other issues with front loading washers that we will discuss. Let’s look at some things you need to know about front-loading washers. Need a great laundromat in Raleigh NC? Stop by Laundry Express.

When it comes to front loading washers some things are really good about them. They are very energy efficient, use less water, and overall gentler on fabrics. Because front-loading machines do not need clothing to rub together to help them get clean, they can handle a small load of laundry really well. Front-loading washers clean your clothing by taking the clothes upward and then dropping them back down as part of the cycle. Your garments do not stay in the water constantly as they do in most top loading machines. A Front-loading machine also has the ability to sense the right amount of water needed to wash the load of laundry you place in it. This same machine that is capable of smaller loads can also wash a large comforter if the capacity of the machine is 4.5 ft.³ or more. This makes it very versatile for your family’s laundry.

Top loading washers have often had vibration issues. This has been the same issue in front loading washers as well. In a front-loading washer, the drum wheel spins faster than a top loader and take more water out of the clothes and machine. The drum also rotates horizontally as it does in a dryer. If there is vibration coming from the machine this is transferred to the floor. This is a problem that most manufacturers are constantly working to fix. You always want to be sure that your washer no matter the time is level at all times and all of the feet of the machine is firmly on the floor.

Another big concern with front-loader washers has been with mold and mildew concerns. This is an issue with the door and seal of the washer. This problem can also happen in the detergent dispenser. The large front rubber gasket is the worst culprit. Manufacturers have worked to try and fix this problem over the years but the problems do persist. It is recommended that consumers follow the manufacturers instructions carefully. This includes using detergents formulated for high efficiency (HE) washers only. It is also recommended that you leave the door ajar after each load to allow the washer to dry thoroughly to prevent any mold or mildew from occurring.

As you can see there are some important things to consider when it comes to choosing a washer. Check back for our next post on Top Loading washers.
