Front Loading Washers 101

If you are in the market for a new washer our next couple of posts are for you. In these posts, we will look at front load washers and top load washers. We will explore the differences between the two and hopefully help you decide which would be right for you and your family’s laundry. This post will address front loading washers.

Front load washers are relatively new to the united states but have been standard overseas in Europe and in Asia. They gained popularity in the United States over the last 10 years. The price of a front load washer, however, has been much higher and in recent years this has caused sales to decline. There are some other issues with front loading washers that we will discuss. Let’s look at some things you need to know about front-loading washers. Need a great laundromat in Raleigh NC? Stop by Laundry Express.

When it comes to front loading washers some things are really good about them. They are very energy efficient, use less water, and overall gentler on fabrics. Because front-loading machines do not need clothing to rub together to help them get clean, they can handle a small load of laundry really well. Front-loading washers clean your clothing by taking the clothes upward and then dropping them back down as part of the cycle. Your garments do not stay in the water constantly as they do in most top loading machines. A Front-loading machine also has the ability to sense the right amount of water needed to wash the load of laundry you place in it. This same machine that is capable of smaller loads can also wash a large comforter if the capacity of the machine is 4.5 ft.³ or more. This makes it very versatile for your family’s laundry.

Top loading washers have often had vibration issues. This has been the same issue in front loading washers as well. In a front-loading washer, the drum wheel spins faster than a top loader and take more water out of the clothes and machine. The drum also rotates horizontally as it does in a dryer. If there is vibration coming from the machine this is transferred to the floor. This is a problem that most manufacturers are constantly working to fix. You always want to be sure that your washer no matter the time is level at all times and all of the feet of the machine is firmly on the floor.

Another big concern with front-loader washers has been with mold and mildew concerns. This is an issue with the door and seal of the washer. This problem can also happen in the detergent dispenser. The large front rubber gasket is the worst culprit. Manufacturers have worked to try and fix this problem over the years but the problems do persist. It is recommended that consumers follow the manufacturers instructions carefully. This includes using detergents formulated for high efficiency (HE) washers only. It is also recommended that you leave the door ajar after each load to allow the washer to dry thoroughly to prevent any mold or mildew from occurring.
