We don’t often think about washing machines and accidents going hand-in-hand but sometimes accidents do happen. One of the first things you will want to look at is the hoses of the washing machine. Keeping these hoses in good shape and replacing them once every five years is recommended by most washing machine manufacturers. When looking at your hoses you will want to see that they are not leaking, cracked, or bulging in any way. Also, you will want to look for any other abnormal things and if you notice problems replace the hoses at once. A good rule of thumb is to always use a high-quality hose on your machine. You will get better results and prevent leaks by using a good grade of hose.

Always pay strict attention to the operation of your washing machine. This means it should sound normal and operate normally. If you find that your machine is making any kind of noise or is leaking you will want to have a professional come out and check your appliance. Always keep an ear on your machine because getting it fixed quickly will keep it from becoming a bigger problem. Not keeping your washer in good repair could mean your home will be flooded or other damages can occur.

Always make certain that you keep an eye on pets and children that might be in and around the washing machine. If you have a front-loading washing machine, make certain the door is always closed. If it is not closed, then your pets and even your children might be able to get into the washer and this can cause damage and may also hurt your child or pet. Always teach your children about safety when it comes to your washing machine and your dryer as well. It is a good idea to keep the door to your laundry room closed at all times.

You should always make a certain that your washing machine is plugged in correctly. Always plug it into an outlet that is designed for a larger appliance meaning it can handle the energy load. Never plug your washer into an extension cord as this can cause an overload and a fire may result. You will also want to take care to not overload your washing machine and use the instructions in your owner’s manual for operating properly.
