We all know that doing the laundry for ourselves and for our family is a time consuming. It seems impossible to think that we can add more time on to that laundry routine. However, did you know that by adding as little as 30 seconds on to your normal laundry routine you can help keep your dryer in tip-top shape and ensure your clothing stays as good as new. This blog post will look at how to clean your dryer each and every time you run the machine.

The first thing that you will want to do is also a list chore to do. Each and every time you use the dryer take a few seconds to lift out the lint screen. You will find this along the rim your door and all you will need to do is remove it and discard any material or lint that you find. Once in a while you will also want to take the entire lint trap out and give it a good cleaning. Simply wash it in your sink using soapy warm water. Once it is clean air dry it and replace.

At least once every three months take the time to give your dryer a good cleaning. You will want to unplug the machine and first clean the exterior of your clothes dryer. Most dryers will build up lots of dust and small particles of lint on the outside of the machine as well as in your laundry room. Make sure that you have the machine unplugged before you begin and then use a good all-purpose cleaner and a soft cloth. Clean your knobs and buttons being careful not to use a cleaning spray that is too strong. If it is too strong it may remove the written instruction part from your electronics. When you have cleaned the exterior, you can move to the interior. Look at the inside tub of the machine and remove any objects that do not belong there such as tape, thread, and lint. If you find any greasy or sticky places you can use a little olive oil that has been warmed and then use a soft spatula to scrape. If there are scuffs you can use a paste of baking soda and water and gently rub it into the areas. Once you have cleaned up any areas that greasy and sticky then spray the entire dryer drum with cleaner and wipe clean. Just make certain that you wipe it out well so that no residue can transfer to your garments.

This is also the time to clean the vent and the hose at the back of your dryer. Remove this vent and the hose and remove any lint that you find on the walls of the hose. It can be vacuumed but if it has a particularly large amount of buildup of lint you might want to replace it. This buildup is a huge cause of dryer fires in the home. Also take the time to clean the inside and outside vent.  On the outside make sure to trim back hedges or remove cobwebs and other debris that may have accumulated and can keep your dryer from adequately venting.
