Get Sports Gear Clean at a Laundromat

Some of the hardest to clean items for parents are sports gear. Fall and winter sports are some of the roughest. Dirt and grass gets really ground into the uniforms. Often they do not come clean when washed and need another go. Parents of kids that play sports are always looking for ways to get uniforms and gear cleaned. This post will address this laundry issue and help you with tips to get your child’s sports gear cleaner at the local Raleigh laundromat.

Raleigh Laundromat Tips for Sports Gear!

The laundromat is the perfect place for getting your sports gear cleaned up. Follow these instructions for figuring it all out:

  • Before you place the gear into the washer take the time to properly sort the items. Some things can be washed on a regular cycle and some cannot.
  • Bulky items will need to be separated from other clothing so that you do not overload the washer.
  • If there are removable liners or pads take them out before washing. These should be washed alone on a gentle cycle. Cold water will be best. Jerseys and things made of this material should also be gently washed and hung to dry.
  • If you see ground in dirt or grass stains you will want to pre-treat these stains. The sooner the better to keep them from setting in. Make it a rule that all sports gear must be checked immediately upon the return home.
  • Treat stains with a good oxygen based stain remover. One with added enzymes is also a great choice. Allow the stain remover to thoroughly saturate the stain and sit for about an hour or overnight. If using a laundromat allow for the proper time.
  • Wash as normal with a good detergent and a laundry booster. Check for remaining stains before you put items into the dryer.
  • If your sports attire items can be dried use caution. Use the lowest setting possible because high temperatures can cause shrinkage. Check carefully for any plastic parts that might melt. Air dry these to prevent a disaster.
  • When drying bulky pads it’s a good idea to place several tennis balls in the washer and the dryer with them. This will help keep the padding from separating from the garment.
  • We cannot stress enough the importance of not overloading either the washer or dryer. This will not only keep the items from getting clean it could also damage them. You do not want to have to re-wash or replace items because of this.
