What is there was a solution to one particularly tough stain? Red wine always seems to end up everywhere it shouldn’t. In your clothes, on the carpet, or the outside of your new handbag. Thankfully, there is a DIY, in-home solution to this problem!

Remove a red wine stain!

For delicate fabrics: Soak the spot, immediately, or as soon as possible,  with denatured alcohol. Flush with white vinegar to remove the residual stain.

For sturdy fabrics: Coat stain with salt, as soon as possible. Leave the salt standing for five minutes. Stretch the stained area over a cereal bowl. Secure it with a rubber band. Placing the bowl and fabric in the sink, carefully pour boiling water over stain from a height of at least a foot. Do not wring the fabric out. Allow it to air dry.

Should red wine end up on a beloved cloth chair, this remedy should work in no time at all!

• Carefully blot any excess wine with a clean rag or paper towels.  Don’t rub the wine. The goal is to only mop up excess liquid.
• Pour white vinegar on the stain. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
• Again, blot any excess vinegar with a different clean rag or paper towel.
• Pour laundry detergent on the stain.
• Let the detergent sit for 5 minutes.
• Blot the excess detergent.
• Let the area air dry.

As the cloth chair dries, you shouldn’t be able to tell there was something even spilled there! All it takes is a little patience!

After all soiled areas are cleaned and dried, wash and dry them as normal!

If you’ve spilled red wine on slip covers, table cloths, or other large pieces of fabric, they might not be able to fit into your washer or dryer. Sometimes taking the large pieces to a Raleigh Laundromat is the best option.
